Recently, I came down with a little “something”. It was just an unidentified “something”, but I felt it all the while. Fatigue, sore throat, sneezing, and a few other symptoms. I even had an evening of wicked stomach pains. Typically, when I get sick, I’m super annoyed. How dare an illness mess with my fun or my workouts or my work? I fight my body and seek every remedy within reach that could potentially speed up the recovery process or make me magically better tomorrow.

Here’s what I’ve realized recently—and yes it seems obvious, but regardless I wasn’t practicing it—the body will heal at the pace it wants to and it’s good for me to of course support it, but it’s better for me to ultimately get out of the way and let it do its thing. And, here’s the amplifying point to that—I started to think, what if this temporary illness was actually something that was trying to help me?

Here is what I mean. Leading up to this week, I was processing a lot. I was frustrated with some ongoing thought patterns I had, and I was saying to myself “why can’t I let go of these toxic thoughts?” I was frustrated that some of the things that I have been working on in my own personal development hadn’t made more progress.

On Sunday leading up to this week, I had a reiki healing session. I can’t help but think that that session cracked me open. That it sucked the toxins out of all the cervices where they no longer belonged. So now as I moved through the week, my body manifested an illness that would begin to really move that energy out. So, I leaned into that. Throughout the week, I went to bed earlier, and I took the opportunity to literally do nothing at certain moments. Time will tell if that was in fact the case, but I have a theory.

Here’s the theory: my body was really listening to my requests to release thought patterns and bad feelings. And, those thought patterns and bad feelings are really energy. If I can release the energy of them, the patterns will shift. So I worked in the energy, and I kept asking the energy to shift and move through my own healing and visualizations. I don’t know for sure yet if it works, but I can say for sure that the next day, I felt better.
